International transport corridors

The geographical position of Belarus predetermined its role as a transit road power: the republic is located at the crossroads of the main transport routes connecting Western European countries with the East, the Black Sea coast regions and the Baltic Sea countries. The territory of Belarus is crossed by 2 trans-European transport corridors, identified according to the international classification under number II (West - East) and under number IX (North - South).

The highway M-1/E 30 Brest - Minsk - the border of the Russian Federation is a section of the trans-European transport corridor II Berlin - Warsaw - Minsk - Moscow - Nizhny Novgorod, connecting Germany, Poland, Belarus and Russia. This transport corridor is identified by the European Union as the highest priority among the trans-European transport corridors in connection with the importance of trade flows passing through it between East and West. Its length on the territory of the republic is 610 km. The traffic intensity in certain sections of this highway reaches 8500-10000 cars per day.

Today, the M-1/E30 highway meets international standards in technical parameters, it uses the most modern technologies and means of organizing traffic. Most of it has the status of a road for cars, which means that the maximum speed is increased to 120 km/h, which allows to increase the throughput of the road and improve the environmental situation.

The highway M-8/E-95 border of the Russian Federation - Vitebsk - Gomel - the border of Ukraine crosses the territory of the republic from north to south, has a length of 456 km and is part of the trans-European transport corridor IX, which connects Finland, Lithuania, Russia, Belarus, Ukraine , Moldova, Romania, Bulgaria and Greece. The branch of this corridor IXB Gomel - Minsk - Vilnius - Klaipeda - Kaliningrad has a length of 468 km across Belarus and provides cargo owners with access from the regions of Eastern Ukraine and Central Russia to the specialized seaports of Klaipeda, Ventspils and Kaliningrad.

It should be noted that there is a network of road service facilities on the sections of trans-European transport corridors passing through the territory of the republic. The state pays special attention to expanding the volume and improving the quality of the services provided, and the priority in this area is the construction of complexes with a full range of services.

The Ministry of Transport and Communications ensures the implementation of the Protocol developed by the Intergovernmental Council of Road Workers on the CIS International Roads, which formulates the basic principles and approaches to the formation and development of the network of international roads of the Commonwealth; measures, aimed at integrating the CIS roads into the European and Asian systems of roads and transport corridors, at creating a modern network of road service facilities and providing services to international road carriers, as well as at organizing interaction between road administrations, were identified.

The Ministry of Transport and Communications is constantly paying the most serious attention to maintaining the most important international highways in good condition and, on the basis of available capabilities, allocates the necessary resources and financial resources to improve the technical equipment and operational status of trans-European corridors. The enterprises of the industry are doing everything possible to ensure that travel on international highways is as safe, fast and more comfortable as possible. The main roads of the republic are the visiting card of the country, the true heritage of the Belarusian people, therefore, the road workers try not only to preserve it, but also to increase it.

Continuous improvement of international transport corridors passing through the territory of the republic, convenience, comfort and safety of movement along them attract transit traffic flows to the country. Every year, more and more carriers choose the roads of the Republic of Belarus.
