Wednesday, 01 October 2025

Kazakhstan Transport Week is the largest industry event in Central Asia. The key event of the New Silk Way business forum was the strategic session on "Greater Eurasia: Challenges and Opportunities in the Context of Global Change, Including on International Transport Corridors."

The forum brought together experts and industry leaders to discuss the development of the ITC, strengthening transit potential, digitalization, and modernization of logistics infrastructure along the New Silk Road.

The keynote speakers include Kazakhstan's Minister of Transport Nurlan Sauranbayev, Belarus's Minister of Transport and Communications Alexey Lyakhnovich, and the heads of transport agencies from Pakistan, Turkey, and Uzbekistan.

As Alexey Lyakhnovich noted in his speech at the strategic session of the "New Silk Way" business forum, the goal of the transport system is to ensure fast, safe, and high-quality transportation of goods and passengers by all means of transport. Belarus is a reliable partner in achieving this goal.

Key points of Belarusian Minister of Transport's speech:

  • The implementation by Kazakhstan of such major projects for the development of railway infrastructure as the modernization of Dostyk-Moiynty section and the construction of a third border crossing on the border with China, Ayagoz-Bakhty, with a container terminal, will significantly increase the throughput capacity on the route for transit goods between China and European countries.
  • In Belarus, the main international railway routes are 100% electrified. Container trains travel at speeds of up to 1,200 km/day. The infrastructure transits more than 200 million tons of goods per year, including approximately 70 million tons in transit. Full electronic documentation support for freight rail transport is available.
  • The promising Eurasian railway gateway, located in China-Belarus Industrial Park "Great Stone", will create new business opportunities and improve the efficiency of freight transportation.
  • In road transport, Belarus' initiatives include the abolition of the permit system for international freight transport. These have already been implemented with a number of countries.

On the sidelines of Kazakhstan Transport Week 2025, the heads of the transport agencies of Belarus and Kazakhstan held a working meeting. Belarusian Minister of Transport and Communications Alexey Lyakhnovich and Kazakh Minister of Transport Nurlan Sauranbayev discussed a full range of bilateral cooperation issues.
