High-quality roads ensure comfortable and safe travel for citizens, strengthen the regions' economic potential, and enhance the country's image. Maintaining national roads in good condition is a priority for the Ministry of Transport's road authorities. During the Year of Improvement and the Five-Year Plan, quality is under the special control of the transport agency.
The results of the national plan for the Year of Improvement in the country for January-April were reviewed at an operational meeting chaired by Minister of Transport and Communications Alexey Lyakhnovich, which took place at RUE “Beldorcenter”.
Heads of national and local road enterprises also reported on the implementation of a series of measures to prepare roads for spring and summer operations. Another issue—the implementation of this year's roadwork programs for the repair, construction, and reconstruction of public roads (four-month results)—was discussed with the participation of JSC “Holding Management Company “Belavtodor”.
During the meeting, it was noted that the annual increase in routine road surface repairs has significantly reduced the incidence of potholes. Compared to the same period last year, the remaining potholes on the republic's roads have decreased three times, and the critical pothole rate has decreased 12 times. A total of 160,000 square meters of potholes have been repaired since the beginning of 2025.
At a working meeting, the Minister of Transport focused on the heads of national and local road enterprises, among other things, the need for high-quality and precise roadwork, in accordance with established deadlines. "In the Year of Improvement and the five-year quality plan, special attention must be paid to the quality of work performed and the maintenance of the road network," noted Alexey Lyakhnovich.
Alexey Lyakhnovich also took part in the grand opening of a renovated and unique exhibition dedicated to the history of Belarusian road construction, which took place at RUE “Beldorcenter”. Unique exhibits are on display, reflecting the various stages of the development of road construction, as well as the particular aspects of the formation of the road network in our country.
Particular attention is paid to the labor exploits of road engineers during the Great Patriotic War, the restoration of roads and bridges in the post-war period, and the development of the road system during the formation of the independent Republic of Belarus. The exhibition includes an electronic database of outstanding Belarusian road engineers who made significant contributions to the industry.
