Belarusian and Iranian delegations discussed transport cooperation at a meeting in Minsk.
The delegation of Belarus was headed by Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications Sergei Dubina, and the Islamic Republic of Iran – Deputy Minister of Industry, Mines and Trade Mohammad Ali Dehgan.
Iranian side informed about the progress of construction of Rasht-Astara railway sections and the route towards the port of Chabahar. This is one of the largest ports in the country and a key element in the international transit corridor "North-South".
Sergey Dubina noted that Belarus is interested in opening direct air service on Tehran-Minsk-Tehran route by Iranian air carriers. He expressed confidence that Iran's obtaining observer status in the EAEU will have a positive impact on the development of trade relations between our countries and in the Union as a whole.
"Iran occupies a favorable geographical position and for our country is a bridge connecting Belarus with the Persian Gulf states. I am convinced that the potential of the SCO and EAEU integration associations will contribute to the development of cargo transportation by our countries," said Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications Sergei Dubina.
The meeting was held with the participation of representatives of the diplomatic corps – the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Iran Dmitry Koltsov and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Iran to our country Alireza Sanei.
