Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko congratulated his compatriots on the 81st anniversary of the Soviet people's victory in the Great Patriotic War

Saturday, 09 May 2026

May 9, 1945, has forever become a sacred date for every Belarusian, recalling the great feat of the Red Army soldiers, partisans, and underground fighters — our grandfathers and great-grandfathers who brought peace and freedom to their native land and to all of humanity.

Today, we increasingly recognize our responsibility to maintain the fragile security of the planet, so as not to repeat the tragedy of the past.

Therefore, Belarus calls on all states to engage in dialogue instead of conflict, to develop instead of destroy, and to preserve the legacy of the Great Victory in the name of a happy future for new generations.

Our duty is to be worthy of the memory of our heroic ancestors, who managed to withstand severe trials, crush fascism, and raise a wounded country from the ruins.

A deep bow to our dear veterans, eternal memory to the fallen soldiers, patriots and innocent victims of the merciless war.

I am convinced that the truth about the Great Victory will continue to be that lofty moral truth that connects generations, defines values, unites, and inspires creativity.

I wish everyone good health, happiness, and prosperity.

Happy Victory Day!

Alexander Lukashenko
