A comfortable and safe alternative to shuttle buses for intercity travel was discussed at a meeting with the President

Friday, 14 November 2025

Alexander Lukashenko ordered a solution to the problem of queues for shuttle buses during rush hours, including by deploying additional vehicles, including electric ones, to popular routes.

The President noted that electric transport is developing in Belarus: pilot projects have been implemented in Shklov, Zhodino, and Novopolotsk. Overall, more than 44,000 electric vehicles are in operation in the country, with over 1,870 charging stations.

Alexander Lukashenko: "In this regard, it's surprising why there's a shortage of public transportation options for suburban and intercity travel. This issue is being raised by people, including on social media.  <…> "Can't we replace these shuttle buses, Aleksandr Genrikhovich, with buses? We need to do it, not just with internal combustion engine buses, but with electric buses as well. And let them go. People will be happy to ride. It's comfortable, they can breathe fresh air on these buses, they don't have to sit there (like in shuttle buses – BelTA note) all huddled up."

According to the President, this would also be a safer form of transport: “Well, we’ll lose 2-3 minutes, but we’ll be alive and in good health.”
