The event was organized by the Ministry of Transport jointly with Brest Regional Executive Committee. Representatives of customers, passenger transportation operators, and associations participated.
The following issues were discussed during the round table:
Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications Sergei Dubina reported: “The head of state has set the task of eliminating queues for shuttle buses on regular routes, so that passengers can more easily use public transport without creating a rush at stops.” <…> Carriers currently use disparate ticketing systems. We are exploring the possibility of creating a unified system across the country that would cover all routes: suburban, intercity, and international."
Belarus aims to maximize the potential of its more spacious and comfortable rolling stock. The goal is to replace category M2 vehicles (minibuses) with category M3 vehicles (buses) on certain routes.
By government decision, 15 M3 buses have been purchased for Minsk region. At least 10% of the public transport fleet is planned to be renewed annually. "The first task is to replace shuttle buses on long distances with larger-capacity vehicles. This is a more comfortable, reliable, and safe mode of transport," noted the deputy minister.
Following the roundtable discussion, it is planned to prepare a roadmap for organizing regular intra-national passenger transportation, which will include a mechanism for resolving existing problematic issues.
