The corresponding decree was signed by Prime Minister Alexander Turchin.
This measure is a forced response to the unilateral actions of Lithuanian side, which repeatedly and without prior notice closed checkpoints on Belarusian-Lithuanian section of the state border.
The decision is intended to protect the interests of Belarusian and other bona fide carriers. The closure of the border with Lithuania has led to their massive reorientation to Belarusian-Polish and Belarusian-Latvian routes, which have created serious congestion on these routes.
The Government noted that the measure introduced is proportionate, justified, and aimed at protecting bona fide participants in foreign trade from the consequences of unilateral decisions by Lithuanian authorities.
