Highway engineers from around the world gathered in Minsk to discuss new approaches to the design and construction of roads and bridges

The International Scientific and Technical Conference "New Technological Solutions for Roads and Bridges in Transport Infrastructure" was held in Belarusian capital. This annual event, which has become a tradition, brings together representatives of the professional road sector. This year, the conference brought together leading experts, scientists, and practitioners from Belarus, Russia, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Kyrgyzstan.

The program included a plenary session and two sections: roads and bridges. The agenda covered current issues in transport infrastructure development.

As Sergei Leonchik, Deputy Head of the Main Directorate of Highways at the Ministry of Transport, noted in his speech at the opening of the scientific and technical conference, improving road quality and accessibility to transportation is one of the country's national priorities. "We must create conditions for comfortable living in all regions of Belarus. High-quality, convenient, and safe roads are a goal for the entire country, not just for regional centers and Minsk," he said.

Thus, in 2021-2025, 18 thousand km of roads and almost 500 bridges will be repaired and reconstructed in Belarus.

Sergey Leonchik: "We've set an equally ambitious goal for the next five years: to repair approximately 25,000 km of roads and over 500 bridges. This is a serious undertaking. Therefore, it's important that we work seamlessly with our clients, contractors, design institutes, and research institutes."

The organizer of the international conference is the state enterprise "BeldorNII" - a leading Belarusian research institute in road construction, which develops new technologies and materials, conducts scientific research and testing.

In fact, Belarusian and Uzbek road engineers are currently developing new asphalt concrete compositions that are more durable and resistant to high temperatures.

"We're currently working with Uzbekistan on new asphalt concrete compositions that will be temperature-resistant and highly durable. Today, in laboratory conditions, we can predict the lifespan of asphalt concrete under a given intensity," says Vitaly Pilatov, Director of BeldorNII.

The head of the institute spoke about the development of cement concrete road construction in Belarus: "Last year, we developed new complex high-tech liquid concrete additives and launched an automated production line. This enabled road construction companies to obtain a high-quality Belarusian product that will improve the performance characteristics and extend the service life of cement concrete road pavements."
