At the opening of the conference, Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications Sergei Dubina spoke about the work of Belarusian transport industry in the context of the logistics transformation:
"In recent years, thanks to close cooperation with partner countries such as Russia, China, Kazakhstan, Iran, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan, a new logistics framework for transporting Belarusian freight by rail has been established. To address this challenge, intergovernmental agreements have been concluded, and alternative transport and logistics schemes for exports have been developed. Export growth rates for 2024 and the first months of 2025 demonstrate the effectiveness of the chosen logistics solutions."
At the same time, according to Sergey Dubina, the potential for freight traffic is several times higher. Achieving this potential requires: effective partnerships between railways, carriers, operators, and export companies; synergy between rail and port logistics; the use of the ITC “North-South” between Iran and India; the development of container services; and the digitalization of freight transportation.
As Valery Verenich, head of Belarusian Railways, noted, a global transformation of the freight business is underway. A comprehensive system of regional customer transport services has now been created:
"Belarusian Railways continues to actively develop initiatives to build export and transit logistics chains on continental and transcontinental routes. Transportation is carried out both within existing international transport corridors and through the development of new ones."
In 2024, Belarusian Railways transported over 100 million tons of goods. An all-time record for container shipping in Belarus was set – over 1.6 million containers in TEUs. Goods handling exceeded the 2023 figure by 2.7%, reaching almost 75 million tons.
The 3rd International Conference "2025. Railway Logistics: Current Development Challenges" brought together over 200 representatives of the Eurasian transport and logistics market from nine countries. Participants discussed a wide range of issues related to freight transportation by rail and developed optimal options for future work, taking into account the interests of all participants in the logistics process.
